Gold'n
Palmer Heritage Map $ 5.50
Map and brochure on the
Palmer River Goldfields Reserve. This map provides interesting
historical information on the gold rush of 1873. Thousands of European
and Chinese miners opened up one of the state's most rugged, remote, and
inhospitable regions. Despite innumerable hardships, the Palmer
supported a population of 20,000. As quickly as it grew, its peak period
only lasted for another decade to slowly fade away. Today there only
remain old mining sites with rusting mining machinery and relics of the
past. This map shows a range of heritage sites and a few tips for
visitors. Produced in 1990, instructions on this map and how to get
there are no longer accurate. |
