Lithium Ion regulated power supply
|
Coiltek have now produced a lightweight, highly efficient regulated system which runs off Li-Ion batteries. The regulator has been designed with minimal losses and has been adapted so the user can switch between voltages for SD’s and GP’s. Each battery weighs around 280 grams and will have a run time of approximately 5 hours. This is dependant on the conditions of prospecting at the time. The more targets the more power drain etc. so it is recommended to run them for about 5 hours each as a maximum. Changing over at lunch time is a good habit to employ. The system, once placed in the pouch provided will only weigh around 450grams total. The second battery (provided) can easily be carried as a spare as it is so light, or left on charge waiting to be used. To change the battery the operator only needs to turn off the regulator and detector and remove the battery from its cradle on the regulator, then place the charged one back on. It’s that easy! In the Regulator kit you get: THE POUCH
THE BATTERY Coiltek are using a 7.2volt, 7800 mAH high capacity camcorder battery. The batteries are Li-Ion and already come fully circuit protected. They are an off the shelf unit for the Sony Camcorder which make these batteries easy to replace or source. Having the battery separate from the regulator makes it easy to replace parts if needed. The battery should only be charged on the charger provided in the kit as no other current charger for detectors will charge the batteries. This must be made clear to the user as use of a charger which is not specific for these batteries will do permanent damage to the batteries and is not covered under warranty. Li-Ion batteries have no memory effect so regular charging is OK. They actually perform better if charged regularly and dislike being fully discharged as this will reduce cycle life. Cycle life of the batteries is around 300 cycles. If you are not using the system for a month or more, it is best to store them with a full charge and regularly check their voltage and charge if necessary. Providing the batteries are treated in a proper manner they come with a limited 1 year warranty. Replacement batteries are available through Coiltek. Of course, keep the batteries dry and out of extreme heat conditions like the fire! Li-Ion batteries are volatile if they do not have the proper circuit protection. The batteries we supply are fully tested and safety passed by our battery supplier so the user is 100% safe if they treat them properly. The battery weighs around 292 grams and provide power on a SD or GP detector for around 7.5 hrs. This time can vary depending on the amount of targets and conditions which are experienced by the operator. It is recommended the operator have a multi-meter handy to keep a check on the batteries power. A fully charged battery will read around 8.4volts, a fully discharged battery will read around 7.2 volts. THE CHARGER The charger supplied is to be used for the batteries supplied only and will not charge SLA or Ni-MH batteries. It can accept 12 volts from the car or 240 volts from a wall outlet. The charger has a USA style pin configuration but comes supplied with an adaptor so it can be plugged into an Australian wall outlet. For future kits the charger may vary. The charger has a LED indicator which is GREEN when power is supplied to the unit. When a battery is attached and is lower than the required charged voltage the light will go RED and charging commences. Depending on the voltage level of the battery, the charger can take anywhere between 1 hour to 6 hrs to charge a flat battery. This also depends on the capacity of the battery. This time is only a rough guide and the operator should provide adequate time for charging. Once the GREEN LED comes on it is recommended to leave the battery on the charger for another half an hour to complete the trickle charge cycle, however it is not essential. It would be wise to do this every 4 or 5 charge cycles to fully regenerate the battery. Before connecting a battery, always make sure there is power to the charger first. Do not force the battery on the charger it should go on with ease. If no lights are seen, disconnect the charger and inspect equipment or power source. Always disconnect the battery from the charger when not in use. THE SYSTEM Coiltek Li-Ion battery available now ! The operator is to use common sense when using this system in rough terrain or weather. If overgrown bush-land is to be encountered, extra care is needed to protect your investment. By securing the system in a backpack or locating the unit in a safe place minimal damage will occur. Same goes for any piece of your equipment as in curly cords, headphone jack and leads and also coil leads and plugs. The unit is also not water resistant or proof so if wet whether is due think twice about detecting. Any damage to the unit cause by an operator is not covered under warranty. The Coiltek Regulated System comes with a limited 1 year warranty which is held by Coiltek Adelaide. This warranty starts from date of purchase and receipt of purchase or warranty card must be submitted when a claim is made. The warranty covers manufacturing faults only and if you feel something is not right do not hesitate to contact Coiltek immediately for prompt action.
