Friendly Prompt Service at competetive prices ...

the shopNth Qld Miners Den was established in Cairns in 1987 when a need was seen for products and services catering for fossickers, prospectors and small scale miners.

What was originally a hobby of metal detecting had became a business.

the bossIt was an exciting time, gold prices were high at the time and there was quite a lot of activity in small scale gold mining. We were very busy and offered a gold buying service, supplied equipment and supplies.
On the detecting front Minelab had released the GT16000 metal detector with huge success. Previously the Garret A2B had been the detector of choice. Fisher released the Fisher Gold Bug and it became a huge seller. Whites release of the Goldmaster had set new standards in sensitivity and it too became a favourite. We supplied hundreds of these units in Nth Queensland to very happy customers.

With the ever diminishing availability of gold nuggets to detectors, the detecting fraternity were calling for a better detector. In 1995 Minelab replied with the SD2000, a totally new detector.  It created a modern day gold rush! It was the first of a series of detectors released that handled mineralisation so much better than any detector before and detected much deeper targets. Since then improved models have been released and currently we are up to the GP3500, the latest model. These detectors have found more gold than ever before!

Metal detecting is a worthwhile healthy pastime suitable for all age groups and can be enjoyed all year round. The benefits are a healthy lifestyle combined with camping, lots of walking and discovering early mining history. The sound of the detector beeping could just be a rusty old nail or it could the sound of a gold nugget!

The rewards can be many, not just the possible value of a gold nugget but the many relaxing hours in the bush or on the beach.

It is a magic moment when your first nugget is uncovered, however small. And the magic never stops.

I hope to see you out there.
